The Grinch Net

Dedicated to the celebration of grinchiness around the world

"'If I can't find a reindeer, I'll make one instead!'
So he called his dog, Max. Then he took some red thread
And he tied a big horn to the top of his head."
-- How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss

These pages will probably vanish before Christmas 1998

It's been a lovely four years, and I hope you have enjoyed them.

You see, I've just finished my graduate degree, and so I'm leaving CSU. This account will be deleted in the next few months. Please save any pages or pictures or sounds that you like until then.

o The words to The Grinch Song from the TV movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

o An ASCII Grinch for those of you without graphics. This was my Christmas present from Brian Durst. Thanks Brian!

o A slightly larger colorized version of the above Grinch and Max picture (29 K JPEG)

o The Grinch gets an idea! (53 K JPEG)

o Hey, how did a Sneetch get here? (13 K JPEG)

In the movie The Year Without A Santa Claus (by Rankin/Bass), there were two characters who were exceptionally grinchy. They were Heat Miser and Snow Miser. They almost stopped Christmas from coming too, but not because they were as crafty as The Grinch. The Miser Brothers pettily bickered about whether it was going to be a Green Christmas or a White Christmas.

If you have audio support, here is the 1.5 Meg ULAW file of the entire "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" song, sung by the same guy who does Tony the Tiger and Kirby the Vacuum Cleaner from the Brave LIttle Toaster, Thurl Ravenscroft. If you don't have ULAW, maybe the 1.5 Meg WAV version of the Grinch song will help. Special thanks to Famous Rob Malick and Don Jackson, who did the recording. Also, I'm indebted to the lovely and talented Laura Kelly for pointing out errors in the lyrics that I had previously.

All drawings copyright Dr. Seuss. The above images came directly out of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss.

Chuck Jones (he of Bugs Bunny fame) and Dr. Suess made a wonderful movie based on the book in 1966. Boris Karloff starred as the Grinch, and Albert Hague wrote the music. Below are some images from the movie:

o The Grinch and Max leer at Whoville from atop Mount Crumpet (23 K JPEG)

o The Whos, heart to heart and hand in hand, singing, "Come O Christmas"(28 K JPEG)

o The Grinch, sewing his Santa disguise, unsuccessfully uses Max as a tailor's dummy (21 K JPEG)

o The Grinch nabs some carefully hung stockings (27 K JPEG)

o The Grinch pats Cindy Lou Who on her head (18 K JPEG)

o The Grinch, with the strength of 10 Grinches plus two, saves Christmas while Max dangles. (23 K JPEG)

o Sadly, Famous Rob Malick's Grinch site is (hopefully temporarily) down. Rob had 20 or so additional Grinch images and also recorded the Grinch song above.

o Guin found a pattern which will let you knit your own Grinch hat, as described by Cindy Dacko.

I'm often asked, "Hey, how can I apply Grinchology to my daily life?" Consider the novel lawn decorations that Bob Brooks and his wife Kathleen displayed as Christmas approached. Here is Bah, here is Humbug and here is Bah Humbug.

If you can't bear being Grinchy for Christmas, then stop by these famous (though morbidly festive) sites:
o Santa's Workshop, complete with links to many (shudder) ...Santa and Christmas pages.
o Holly and Sara's Christmas Page, and The Fairman Kids Christmas Activities which contain lots of pictures, helpful tips for shopping, caring for Christmas trees recipes and even some craft ideas. It's people like Melanie and the Fairman Kids that give Christmas a good name.
